What is the role of nurse in midwifery?

Midwife, often known as midwives, are experts in proper pregnancy and birth. They are responsible for caring for pregnant women and their babies during antenatal care, labour and delivery, and for up to 28 days after the baby is delivered. During a normal pregnancy and labour, they provide all essential professional care and services.

A licenced nurse-midwife provides holistic care to women at all phases of life, in addition to supporting women during childbirth. They provide physical exams, diagnose and treat medical issues, and in some cases, write prescriptions. Nurse-midwives also consult and advise expectant mothers.

Nurse-midwives with certification can work in a variety of settings, including:

  •          Hospitals
  • ·      OB/GYN clinics
  • ·       Health clinics
  •          Birthing centers
  •          Midwifery practices
  •          Private homes

In addition to gynaecological care, a nurse-midwife can provide primary care to women. They can give ladies going through menopause or perimenopause with holistic care. Even if a woman's male companion has a sexually transmitted disease, a nurse-midwife can help (STD).
